ZAC MACVOY is the real engine behind VoyLét Capital as the firm’s Managing Principal. Having played collegiate hockey for the University of Michigan and Lake Superior State, Zac hung up his skates following graduation and joined United Lighting Standards, working his way up to outside sales. He eventually moved into the VP of Sales role, overseeing all of ULS’ sales and go-to-market strategies. Fully realizing the potential of technology, Zac immersed himself in the workings of venture capital firms and the VC network.
JUSTIN FENDELET has worked as a mortgage banker at Quicken Loans since 2003, where he has been one of the company’s top 1% producers of closed mortgages every year since 2005—with over 400 loans closed in each of the past two years. Other notable career accolades include being nominated for Quicken Loans Rookie of the Year award in 2004 and winner of the company’s Mortgage Banker of the Year award in both 2009 and 2012. Justin graduated with a B.B.A. in Business Administration from University of Detroit Mercy, where he played baseball.
KELLY MACVOY GUFFEY began her career as an environmental reporter and freelance writer before turning her focus toward marketing and branding strategy. In 2008, Kelly co-founded Double G Branding, a boutique marketing and branding firm that helps clients articulate their brand vision and strategy, then bring these to life through messaging, interactive media, and immersive experiences. Prior to that, Kelly specialized in user experience research, client loyalty, and social networking at Sapient, a global business consulting and interactive marketing firm. Throughout the course of her career, she has provided business and marketing solutions for clients including The Coca-Cola Company, Hewlett-Packard, Visa, Levi Strauss & Co., Intel, Sony, Dell, Nissan, UPS, Allstate, UCSF, RedPrairie, Sprint, and Harrah’s Entertainment. She is currently leading the marketing efforts for DWM Holdings, the parent company of a portfolio of brands that design, fabricate, and finish steel and aluminum light poles. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kelly helps to extend the network for VoyLét Capital beyond the Midwest. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from Michigan State University.
RYAN MACVOY‘s first foray into business was as a Cutco Cutlery salesperson in his late teens—an experience that proved the reward of the entrepreneurial spirit. This spirit was galvanized by his additional sales and management positions that followed. After receiving a B.B.A in Marketing from Western Michigan University, Ryan traveled west to Lake Tahoe, California. The mountains and deep snow drew him to Squaw Valley where he became an award-winning member of the Squaw Valley Ski School. The snowfall slowed and Ryan made his way back to Michigan, taking an active role learning the operations at DWM Holdings. Having worked his way through the different areas of the business and its portfolio companies, Ryan has held his current position of CEO since 2012.
CHRIS SEAGO is Capital Strategies Leader at Bizdom, where he works closely with the startup accelerator’s entrepreneurs to bring a sense of speed, agility, and decisiveness to their daily roles as CEOs of their companies. Chris helps teams develop strategies and the critical skills necessary to seek and secure rounds of seed and growth funding. He leads businesses in the pitch process for closing capital-raises from private and public sources and helps create investor confidence that Bizdom businesses can scale, increase shareholder value, and produce high returns on investment. Chris is an accomplished creative and business leader with significant P&L experience running businesses and managing projects. His diverse background includes founding and successfully operating his own group of diversified companies including several marketing communications firms and a flight simulation company. Prior to that, Chris was a creative principal at several national ad agencies and produced & directed marketing and ad campaigns for many national brands. Just prior to joining the Bizdom team, Chris was envoy to the U.S. State Dept. as Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer to the International Joint Commission, a bi-national organization between the United States and Canada focused on economic and resource matters between the states and provinces bordering the two nations. A University of Michigan engineering & screenwriting alum and startup fanatic, Chris thrives at brainstorming innovative solutions, matching addressable market needs with disruptive startup technologies, energizing clients and empowering team members. He is also a script and visual advisor on theater productions and feature movies, and he teaches drone piloting to industry and the military.
TOM KELLY is Director of Entrepreneurship at Automation Alley, Michigan’s largest technology business association. In this role, he oversees the organization’s technology business accelerator programs. Prior to Automation Alley, Tom spent seven years as a technology business consultant for the State of Michigan’s Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), where he actively coached more than 300 technology startups through all facets of their early life, including visioning, strategic planning, sales and marketing and operational execution. He has also successfully launched three separate startup companies for angel, VC, and corporate investors in the fields of software, manufacturing technology and distribution. Tom holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
PAUL M. MERSINO is an attorney in the Detroit office of Butzel Long. He is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group where he represents public and private companies, both as plaintiff’s attorney and defendant’s attorney, in a number of areas, including complex commercial litigation, contract disputes, construction litigation, automotive supplier disputes, non-competition disputes, and landlord-tenant disputes. Paul also represents and advises a number of Startup companies, assisting them with their legal needs and matching them with potential venture capital funding. He handles appeals in the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and federal courts and was named a Michigan Super Lawyers Rising Star in Business Litigation for 2012 and 2013.
